Catching Up

It's so hard to believe that we are already into a new year. Where did 2007 go? I am hoping that 2008 will be the year for good changes. How about you?

Christmas Vacation at our house wasn't too good of one for the Boys. We ended up having to take them to the doctor last Sunday (yes even in Eastern Oregon we do have clinics that are open 7 days a week). They both ended up catching my cold a few days before Christmas and were struggling to over come it. Sunday they both woke complaining of their ears hurting. It was time to see the Doc. A new Doc at that too. Doc Bud is such a neat man. We are all kinda hoping that he buys our neighbors place. The Boys are still talking about how much fun he was. Anyways. Dawson had an ear infection in both ears and Justin had it in one ear. Needless to say that after two days of the powerful good drug both Boys are finally back to acting normal and actually life like.

My brother has done it again to us. We thought that we would help Bo and his girlfriend by letting Stacy keep her horse at Wishing Star Acres (we needed a ranch name and this is what we came up with) on a temp basis. Well Bo for reason that I don't need or want to know has decided to end it with Stacy and guess what...the horse has now been dumped on two people that don't want it! The horse wouldn't be too bad if she wasn't basically wild. She isn't broke to catch, has bad feet and kicks my horses and cow. The horse is a young horse that has never been handled the right way from birth. Now it is up to me and I guess my Dad too(he's going to try to help us figure out what to do with the horse) to deal with this thing. Ugh...family sometimes just make us want to scream!

Aaron's working on his second month of night shift at work. About the only good things about his working nights is that we don't have to pay for day care every day just on Fridays and that Aaron instead of taking the over time in money is racking up comp time. We are going to start looking into buying a wood stove for our house so the comp time will come in handy this spring when it is time to get firewood and fence posts. Any one need a working pellet stove? I have twelve days of vacation time and 13 days of sick leave now at my job this year. This is the first time that I have had this kind of benefits and more. My Dad will turn 50 this fall so I have taken a day off for this celebration. My job is good. I have gotten to know a lot of neat people that live in Baker County. Even met a nice man from South Carolina that had come home for Christmas to Baker yesterday. My old boss came threw drive up yesterday. She doesn't usually do this and she even mentioned that too during the transaction. She only did it so she could tell me that they finally hired someone for my old position on the mail route. They haven't had a relief since I left the end of July. As if I cared. Its nice to go to work each day and not have to deal with the "additives" that are totally unnecessary.

We have a lot of snow compared to the spring like weather we endured last winter. The wind has been the major problem the past week or so. We can't seem to be able to keep our driveway from drifting shut. Last Monday it was drifted almost completely shut. The neighbor luckily was able to take his Cat to open our road up. Unfortunately is was several hours after his wife and I left for work though. Today we've had several white-outs but luckily the wind was blowing too hard for the snow to be deposited into the driveway. Sure was cool to listen to though. As the wind traveled through the pine trees around Pine creek on a fast track to our place it sounded like a freight train was coming straight for me. I sat in the barn for a while just listening to the dead silence right before the wind would hit again. The latest snow moisture report for our area says that the experts can't say for sure yet as we still have until April for winter but so far it looks really good as far as the snow pack goes. More snow the first week in 08 than 07 had. We need all the moisture we can get around here to pull us out of the drought. The only thing that some of the farmers and water districts are worried about is that the fact that the ground didn't get a good hard freeze before the snow hit. When the snow starts to melt the ground will just soak it all up instead of filling the streams and lakes with the water so we will have water to irrigate our lands with come summer time.

Wishing you all sunshine and smiles :^)
