Summer Vacation Coming Early

Summer vacation will begin a week early for us at this Smith household. The Baker School District says that it will save $250,000 by letting everyone out of school May 28th instead of June 5th. The District is even talking about cutting all music from at least the elementary classes now to save even more money. If our boys' were to still attend school in Baker this coming fall they wouldn't even be going to the same school. The school that they have attended, North Baker school, is permanently closing. It will probably become an eye sore just like the Churchill school has. 1-3rd grades will now be going to school at Brooklyn school on the west side of Baker and 4-6 will go to South Baker school. Kindergarten will go to school in a private wing at the High School. The Middle school will all be housed in one instead of two buildings. "What a mess!" is what you will hear from every parent with kids in the Baker school district. And here just a year ago the District was begging for us tax payers to pay for a brand new Middle School. We are so glad that the Boys' will be going to school in North Powder come this fall. They are excited and so is Gramma Carol!!
